After marching in the Spartan Marching Band and completing his BA from MSU, he worked as a performer for Cedar Point, Princess Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Lines, literally seeing the world through musical opportunities. Upon his return, he joined several rock bands, set up a private lessons practice, and became a teacher and band director at Trinity Lutheran, Grass Lake, Michigan Center, and Western Schools before accepting his current position at Jackson College.
